§ Dr. WrightTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the loss of revenue from the imposition of value added tax on fuel in(a) 1994–95 and (b) 1995–96 as a consequence of (i) the compensation provisions and (ii) pre-payment by consumers.
§ Sir John CopeThe Government have made available a generous package of help for pensioners, and those on low incomes, worth £2,500 million over three years. I do not expect that there will be any loss of tax revenue from the compensation package. The revenue loss from pre-payment of fuel bills by consumers will be very small in relation to the total revenue from VAT on fuel and power.
