§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will discuss with the chairman of the Parliamentary Boundary Commission for Wales the arrangements and timing for holding inquiries into the commission's proposals for the counties of Clwyd and Dyfed; and if he will urge the commission to move the dates away from the European parliamentary elections.
§ Mr. Charles WardleThe arrangements and timing of local inquiries are a matter for the commission. I understand from the commission that, in making arrangements for the inquiries, it took into account the date of the elections to the European Parliament, but decided that it was not possible to postpone the inquiries without an unacceptable risk to its achieving the statutory deadline of 31 December 1994 for submission of the final report on the current review of parliamentary constituencies in Wales.
