§ Mr. Douglas HoggLast year the United Nations Secretary General proposed a large increase in funding for the United Nations human rights programme in 1994–1995. The United Nations General Assembly in 1993 recognised the need for further additional resources to fund the new High Commissioner for Human Rights. We welcomed both steps, and hope that they will be confirmed in the next few weeks. We will continue to support the efforts of the Secretary General to increase the resources available to the centre, if necessary through redeployment from areas of lesser priority.
