§ Lord Irvine of Lairgasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether the Lord Chancellor will place in the Libraries of both Houses of Parliament all correspondence and other related documents concerning differences during 1992–1993 between him and the then President of the Employment Appeal Tribunal, Mr. Justice Wood, on the proper procedures for dealing with Notices of Appeal to that Tribunal.
§ The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)It is not normal practice for the Lord Chancellor to make public correspondence between the Lord Chancellor and members of the judiciary. However on this one occasion, with the agreement of Sir John Wood, I am prepared to do so. I am placing all correspondence with Sir John Wood on this matter in the Libraries of both Houses together with documents related thereto. The relevant correspondence took place in the period from December 1991 to July 1993 and begins with a paper dated 13 December 1991 produced by Sir John Wood at the request of the then Deputy Chief Justice, in which Sir John gives his appreciation of the then position of the EAT.
