§ Sir Malcolm ThorntonTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans Her Majesty's Government have to continue to support economic and political reform in Africa under the third phase of the special programme of assistance for sub-Saharan Africa co-ordinated by the World bank.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydWe have pledged to commit up to £300 million under the World bank's SPA III programme over the three years 1994–95 to 1997–98. These funds will be available to poor, debt-distressed African countries, selected by Her Majesty's Government, which are adhering to an IMF/IBRD-endorsed economic reform programme, and are pursuing good government policies.
