HL Deb 19 April 1994 vol 554 c9WA
The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why they have not adopted the recommendation of the Clothier Report, that, where possible, doctors should prescribe and pharmacists should dispense.

Baroness Cumberlege

The Government have implemented the recommendations of the Clothier Committee whereby doctors are only allowed to dispense in certain circumstances to patients who live in rural areas, at a distance of more than a mile from the pharmacy. We continue to monitor these arrangements carefully.
