To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the balance of trade.

The visible trade deficit in 1993 was the same as in 1992, despite strengthening activity in the United Kingdom and weakness in key European markets. With continuing good unit labour cost performance and improved competitiveness, the prospects are encouraging.
