HC Deb 13 April 1994 vol 241 c204W
Mr. Anthony Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what response he has made to the recent parliamentary human rights group reprt on alleged involvement by Iranian Government officials in the assassination of Iranian dissidents overseas; and what steps he is taking to raise the matter at the United Nations Security Council.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I have written to the chairman of the parliamentary human rights group, Lord Avebury. We and our European partners drafted and co-sponsored a resolution at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, adopted on 9 March 1994, expressing concern at continuing reports of Iranian involvement in terrorism. The resolution urged the Government of Iran torefrain from activities such as those mentioned in the report of the Special Representative against members of the Iranian opposition living abroad and to cooperate wholeheartedly with the authorities of other countries in investigating and punishing offences reported by them".
