To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much the NHS has spent on employing recruitment consultants in the last year for which figures are available.

Responsibility for recruitment of staff, and the procedures they use for doing so, are a matter for national health service employers.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much her Department has spent on recruitment consultant purposes in the last year.

Mr. Sackville

During 1993–94 the Department of Health, excluding its agencies, spent £259,659 on recruitment, of which £204,606 was spent on work carried out by Recruitment and Assessment Services Agency, an executive agency of the Cabinet Office.
