To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the total sum of rents determined as reasonable for housing benefit subsidy for the last year for which figures are available.

The total sum of rents determined as reasonable by the rent officer service for housing benefit subsidy for the 1992–93 financial year for England and Wales is £2.245 billion.
