HL Deb 12 April 1994 vol 553 c86WA
Lord Airedale

asked Her Majesty"s Government:

What is the purpose of the instruction on a driving licence application form "On the back of your cheque write your … date of birth".

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish)

Should an application for a driving licence and the associated cheque be accidentally separated, the date of birth together with the name on the front of the cheque will enable the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency to link the documents or trace the correct driver licence record.
