HC Deb 12 April 1994 vol 241 c100W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make it a mandatory requirement that all aerosol sprays which carry a "Flammable" warning label should also carry the flame symbol.

Mr. Heseltine

The use of the flame symbol is governed by Commission directive 67/548/EEC as amended, which has been implemented in this country by the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging) Regulations 1993. The directive and these implementing regulations require the symbol to be used only where a product is labelled "Extremely Flammable" or "Highly Flammable" and not just "Flammable".
