§ Dr. HowellsTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what plans he has to order an immediate investigation of reports of anthrax contamination in buildings formerly used to house large quantities of animal bones for industrial processing at the tinworks site in Treforest, Pontypridd;
(2) if he will make it his policy that his Department will allow no development on the tinworks site in Treforest, Pontypridd until exhaustive investigations have been completed into reports that the site is contaminated with anthrax spores;
(3) what plans he has to order an immediate tightening of security arrangements around buildings known as the tinworks site in Pontypridd until such time as investigations are complete into reports that the buildings are contaminated with anthrax spores.
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesThe issues of development and possible contamination of this site are matters for Taff Ely borough council as the local planning and environmental 821W health authority. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State understands the council has made development of the site conditional on a full prior examination of possible contamination. Should evidence of any contamination be revealed, no development would be permitted until appropriate remedial measures were undertaken.
In terms of the security of the site, my right hon. Friend has been advised that the council are following this, matter up with the developers.
