HC Deb 29 October 1993 vol 230 c843W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps have been taken by her Department to ensure that FHSAs are able to safeguard against general practitioners submitting false claims for the number of patients registered at their practice; and if she will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

Family health service authorities are required to validate general practitioners' claims for fees and allowances, and where appropriate, to make payment accordingly. Regional health authorities are responsible for monitoring the performance of their FHSAs in the general discharge of their duties. The national health service central register can assist FHSAs in checking a patient's registration and the name of the previous doctor.
