Mr. Dafis

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what research has been conducted by her Department on the effect of the organophosphate Fonofos on the United Kingdom bird population.

Mr. Soames

This Department is currently undertaking research into the effect of seed treatments, including Fonofos, on bird populations as part of its assessment of the environmental hazards of pesticide usage.
