To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the future use of RAF Upper Heyford.

Since the United States Department of Defense announced that it would be returning RAF Upper Heyford to MOD control by the end of September 1994 we have been investigating alternative defence uses for the airfield thereafter; this work continues. On a contingency basis my officials have been participating in working party discussions with the local authorities to consider he options for the long-term redevelopment of the airfield should no alternative defence use be identified.
