Overseas Staff and Premises

Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the cost for the current financial year of his Department having(a) premises and (b) personnel overseas; and what were the comparable figures for (a) 12, (b) 24, (c) 36 and (d) 48 months ago.

DOE (central) has one member of staff stationed in Germany. Personnel and premises costs are covered by payments received for the work carried out; hence, DOE (central) incurs no net expenditure.

In addition, the international arm of PSA Services had premises and personnel overseas in the past four years and the costs incurred were as follows:

These costs were fully met by receipts from the Ministry of Defence and other customers. PSA International closed on 30 September 1993, and no further costs will be incurred. Residual tasks are being completed by units in PSA Services.
