To ask the President of the Board of Trade what response he has made to the recent application by Nuclear Electric plc to build a third nuclear plant at Sizewell.

My Department directed Nuclear Electric plc to advertise its application pursuant to the terms of the Electricity (Applications for Consent) Regulations 1990 and the Electricity and Pipe-line Works (Assessment of Environmental Effects) Regulations 1990.
