HC Deb 27 October 1993 vol 230 c660W
Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many investigations have been conducted by each local authority into potential breaches of the Welfare of Animals During Transport Order 1992; how many were successful prosecutions; and what was the average level of fine within each local authority area.

Mr. Soames

We have no information on how many individual investigations are carried out, but we have records of six successful prosecutions by local authorities under the order resulting in fines totalling £3,540. Local authorities have also issued more than 40 written cautions and regularly carry out random checks on livestock vehicles.
