§ Mr. Maclean[holding answer 19 October 1993]: The analysis requested of persons remanded is not available centrally because although some information on the use of remands during proceedings is collected, the amount of detail recorded is limited and does not identify separately every individual offence. Moreover the data which are collected are particularly subject to data quality problems.
Information for England and Wales in 1992, which is provisional showing the number of 15-year-olds sentenced to immediate custody by offence and sex is given in the table. 1993 data will not be available until the autumn of 1994.
