To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement on the patients charter.

Since the patients charter came into effect in April 1992, patients throughout the national health service have seen the benefits in terms of better services. The patients charter has stimulated many innovative ideas and much good practice at local level and the efforts of the national health service should be applauded.
