To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what was the ratio of officers to other ranks in each of the three armed services in 1980 and 1992.

The ratio of officers to other ranks in each of the three armed services in 1980 and 1992 were as follows:

Royal Navy (including Royal Marines)	1:6.1	1:5.2
