§ Lord Brougham and Vauxasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether access rights to motorway service areas similar to those currently enjoyed by the RAC and AA should be extended to other motor rescue services.
The Minister of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)We decided that the requirement on motorway service area operators to permit access at all times to the employees or agents of the AA and the RAC to carry out emergency repairs to members' vehicles should continue under the new regime announced on 6th August last year. We have now decided that similar rights should be extended to any repairer requested to carry out an emergency repair by the driver of a broken down or damaged vehicle.
