HL Deb 26 October 1993 vol 549 c85WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the increased powers of the European Parliament and the extension of majority voting in the Council of Ministers under the Maastricht Treaty contravene Articles III and XVIII of the Union with Scotland Act 1706, in that the powers and rights of the Scottish people thereby are reduced.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Fraser of Carmyllie)

The Maastricht Treaty is not in contravention of any of the provisions of the Union with Scotland Act of 1706.
