HL Deb 26 October 1993 vol 549 c83WA
Viscount Addison

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give an undertaking to those farmers who have been affected twice in the last 12 years by uncontrolled flooding, due to the banks of the Barlings Eau being breached in Lincolnshire, that funds will be made available for the completion of a Lower Witham Scheme to prevent recurrence of this problem.

Earl Howe

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is providing grant aid towards the cost of a study of the Lower Witham and its tributaries being undertaken by the National Rivers Authority. Any subsequent application from the authority for grant aid towards the cost of capital works to alleviate flooding in the area will be considered swiftly and sympathetically against the economic, technical and environmental criteria laid down by government.
