HC Deb 26 October 1993 vol 230 c563W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what policy proposals she has developed as a result of the findings and recommendations of the second joint annual report of the Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment and the Committee on Carcinogenicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment.

Mr. Soames

So far as the responsibilities of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food are concerned, the safety assessments carried out by these committees form an essential basis for all policies related to the safety of food. In the case of the second joint annual report, the conclusions of the committees were reflected in the policies pursued in EC negotiations on the approval of specific food additives, in the clearance of food use of a novel fat, and in the withdrawal from sale of certain comfrey products.
