§ 42. Mr. RathboneTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement about action so far implemented following publication of his White Paper on science technology and engineering "Realising Our Potential".
§ Mr. David DavisProgress in implementing the White Paper has been excellent. We have established a new Council for Science and Technology to provide high-level advice. We have embarked on a technology foresight programme, aimed at achieving new working partnerships between industry, academia and Government. We have made preparations for the new research council structure, including appointing the first of the new part-time chairmen. We have announced a number of initiatives to promote public understanding of science, engineering and technology.
