HC Deb 25 October 1993 vol 230 cc508-9W
Mr. Page

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what discussions he has had with the Maxwell pensioners trust on arbitration on disputes between pension funds and financial bodies, as a means of reducing legal and accountancy fees; and if he will make a statement on developments to date.

Mr. Hague

The trustees of the Maxwell pensioners trust have taken an initiative to promote an overall settlement to the many disputes relating to missing Maxwell pension scheme assets. The Government welcome this initiative, which is being taken forward on behalf of the trust by Sir Peter Webster, a retired High Court judge.

Although the details of Sir Peter's work must necessarily remain confidential to him and those directly involved, I and my right hon. Friend stay in touch with overall progress through Sir John Cuckney, chairman of the trust.
