HL Deb 25 October 1993 vol 549 c67WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What communications they have received from the Government of Kuwait concerning thousands of Kuwaiti and other citizens forcibly removed to Iraq, during the occupation of Kuwait and subsequently never accounted for; whether any of them may still be alive; and whether all possible means are being used to verify these matters.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We fully support the efforts of the Kuwaiti authorities to trace their citizens detained in Iraq. We raise their plight at the United Nations when the Security Council reviews economic sanctions against Iraq, most recently on 20th September. We will continue to raise it in the Security Council until Iraq fulfils all its obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolutions 686 and 687 to co-operate with the International Committee of the Red Cross in its attempts to gather information on Kuwaiti and other nationals missing in Iraq.
