HC Deb 22 October 1993 vol 230 c391W
Ms Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy on sending openly homosexual prisoners to HMP Ford.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

[holding answer 19 October 1993]: Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the director general of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter to Ms Joan Ruddock from Derek Lewis, dated 22 October 1993: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the allocation of homosexual prisoners to Ford prison. Openly homosexual prisoners are not sent to Ford prison as the allocation criteria excludes actively known homosexuals, except life sentenced prisoners, whose moves have been authorised by the Secretary of State as part of a progression towards release.
