HC Deb 22 October 1993 vol 230 c377W
Sir Ralph Howell

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what estimate he has as to the effect on social security expenditure of all kinds, including passport benefits, of raising the income tax threshold to £100 per week.

Mr. Burt

The effect would be a reduction of around £160 million per year.

It is not possible to estimate the effect this change would have on the NHS low income scheme.
