§ Sir John Cope[holding answer 21 October 1993]: At the time of its announcement in the last Budget it was estimated that applying VAT to domestic fuel and power would raise £2.85 billion in 1996–97, the first year that revenue will fully reflect the standard rate of 17½ per cent.
