HC Deb 22 October 1993 vol 230 c381W
Sir David Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish an estimate of the yield there would be to the Exchequer from an airport departure tax of £5 levied on everyone leaving from a United Kingdom airport for an overseas destination.

Sir John Cope

In 1992 there were approximately 36 million passenger departures from United Kingdom airports to overseas destinations according to the "International Passenger Survey". On this basis, the yield from an airport departure tax of £5 per passenger would have been approximately £180 million.
