To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the level of funding for the technical and vocational education initiative provided by(a) his Department and (b) local education authorities for each financial year since its introduction.

The following table shows the Department's expenditure on the technical and vocational education initiative since its introduction in September 1983 to March 1993.

The Department does not collate data on expenditure by local education authorities in relation to TVEI, though authorities and grant maintained schools do contribute to TVEI aims.
