HC Deb 21 October 1993 vol 230 cc316-7W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the latest available estimate of the full cost to the Exchequer of introducing(a) free national health service sight tests and (b) free national health service dental examinations for all people over the state retirement age.

Dr. Mawhinney

The estimated costs of extending free national health service sight tests and free national health service dental examinations to all people above the state retirement age who are not currently eligible on other grounds are about £30 million and £10 million, respectively, in 1993–94.
