HC Deb 21 October 1993 vol 230 cc272-3W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what action his Department is currently taking to record and preserve moated sites of archaeological interest in England and Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

English Heritage's monuments protection programme is evaluating all known archaeological remains in England, including moated sites, and identifying those which may be suitable for scheduling. This exercise is expected to result in a very significant increase in the number of scheduled monuments.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales is responsible for the scheduling of monuments in Wales.
