To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what studies have been undertaken by his Department into the nephrotoxicity of soluble depleted uranium used in armour piercing shells by the Army.

Mr. Hanley

The testing and use of armour-piercing shells by the Army does not produce soluble depleted uranium and therefore my Department has not conducted studies in this area.
