§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the operation of the new D-notice arrangements since the establishment of the defence advisory notice system on 1 August.
§ Mr. HanleyCopies of the six defence advisory notices which replace the former eight D-notices have been widely distributed within the media and to those members of the public who have asked for them. Altogether some 800 copies have been issued. I understand that, since they came into effect on 1 August, the defence advisory notices have been used on a number of occasions to help editors, producers and publishers on issues of national security when they are considering what to publish.
