HL Deb 21 October 1993 vol 549 c58WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What has been learnt from the emissions tests carried out on one of the buses used in the Reading Buses biodiesel fuel trial.

The Minister of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)

The conclusions of tests carried out by the Transport Research Laboratory are that changes in most emission rates are small and not clearly attributable to the type of fuel. The exceptions are visible smoke which was significantly lower with biodiesel, and particulate which, contrary to the reported results of others, was substantially higher. A copy of the TRL report has been placed in the Library.
