To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to ensure that councils repair properties promptly.

We are introducing an improved right to repair scheme from 1 April 1994 which will ensure that council tenants have a simple and reliable way of getting urgent repairs carried out promptly and paid for by the council.
