HL Deb 19 October 1993 vol 549 c44WA
Lord Dormand of Easington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they are taking to promote cycling.

The Minister of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)

We recognise that cycling is a practical means of transport, particularly for short journeys. It is quiet, non-polluting and can be a good means of keeping fit.

We aim to work with local authorities, employers and other organisations to bring about conditions that will make cycling a more attractive, convenient and safe way of travelling. The Department of Transport will continue to assist local authorities with advice and technical information, and will take account of plans for cycling in allocating resources under the new package approach for local transport policies and programmes.
