HC Deb 18 October 1993 vol 230 cc87-8W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will make available in the Library copies of the responses received to the consultation on planning guidance on gipsy sites;

(2) if he will publish an analysis of the responses received to the consultation on planning guidance on gipsy sites; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Baldry

Copies of the responses to the draft planning guidance on gipsy sites are available for public inspection in the Library of my Department. A list of respondents has been placed in the Library of the House. We are not proposing to publish an analysis of responses.

A joint DOE/Welsh Office circular will be published as soon as the views of respondents have been fully considered. The circular will guide local planning authorities in assessing gipsies' accommodation needs in their areas, making suitable policies in their development plans, and determining applications for gipsy sites.

Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what measures he is taking to co-ordinate policies between Government Departments on the subject of gipsy sites; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Baldry

Our proposals for reform of the Caravan Sites Act 1968, which were set out in the answer I gave to my right hon. Friend the Member for Woking (Sir C. Onslow) on 31 March,Official Report, column 291, were prepared in close consultation with other interested Government Departments. We will continue to liaise closely with these Departments and, in particular, when we bring forward legislation to implement these proposals.
