To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many places were available in universities and other institutions of higher education for educating and training(a) primary and (b) secondary school teachers in each of the academic years from 1989–90.

Data showing the number of places available are not collected by the Department. The table shows the number of students enrolled at higher education institutions in England on primary and secondary phase initial teacher training courses for the academic years 1989–90 to 1992–93.
