HC Deb 18 October 1993 vol 230 cc89-90W
Mr. Wareing

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the recent visit of the Housing Minister to Liverpool.

Sir George Young

I visited Liverpool on 4 October. I had a very full and interesting day. I visited the Project Rosemary site where I was impressed by the physical regeneration of the area. I delivered the opening speech at the Housing Corporation's conference on "Housing and Partnership". I opened an exhibition set up by Wimpeys which will show the options available to tenants as part of the redevelopment of housing stock in Islington under the vacant dwelling initiative. I attended the ceremony where Councillor Rimmer, on behalf of Liverpool city council, handed over ownership of 67 tower blocks to the Liverpool housing action trust. I also had a useful visit to the Buying Agency. Finally, I met a deputation of tenants from the Dovecot residents association.
