HC Deb 18 October 1993 vol 230 cc84-5W
Mr. Burden

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations he has received regarding the human rights position of the Baha'i community in Iran.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

We have received representations from several Members of Parliament and from the National Spiritual Assembly of Baha'is of the United Kingdom about the human rights of the Baha'i community in Iran. We and our EC partners have raised specific alleged cases of human rights abuses affecting the Baha'i community with the Iranian authorities. We have also co-sponsored resolutions at the United Nations General Assembly and the Commission on Human Rights urging the Iranian authorities to improve their human rights record, and drawing attention to the treatment of Baha'is in Iran.
