HC Deb 18 October 1993 vol 230 cc59-60W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list all accidents to foreign military aircraft on British territory for which a safety investigation committee has been established under the terms of NATO STANAG 3531, paragraph 11.

Mr. Hanley

Although NATO STANAG 3531 allows both the operating nation and host nation to participate in the joint investigation of an accident, in practice, if an accident occurred in the United Kingdom, we would normally permit the operating nation to investigate its own accident unless United Kingdom agencies had been involved. If requested by the operating nation, the United Kingdom would provide assistance. As a result, a complete record of such accidents is not maintained by the Ministry of Defence.
