HC Deb 18 October 1993 vol 230 cc104-5W
Mr. Fraser

To ask the Attorney-General what proposals he has for improving the career prospects of non-legally qualified civil servants in the Crown Prosecution Service.

The Attorney-General

The restructuring of the Crown Prosecution Service over the last 12 months has led to a reappraisal of its administrative structure.

Each CPS area now has a new senior post to co-ordinate administrative functions and each assistant chief crown prosecutor (operations) has a senior non-lawyer at the head of his support team. In addition, development centres will be open to non-lawyers to identify those with the potential to become senior managers in the future.

The CPS continues to sponsor a number of staff to obtain the necessary legal qualifications to enable them to become Crown prosecutors.
