HL Deb 14 October 1993 vol 549 c26WA
Lord Monson

asked the Chairman of Committees:

Whether arrangements can be made to make it possible to buy, or otherwise obtain, a small selection of non-prescription medicines such as painkillers, antacid tablets or antiseptic ointment in the Palace of Westminster after the Nursing Sister goes off duty.

The Chairman of Committees (Lord Ampthill)

There are difficulties and practical problems which make it undesirable to introduce new arrangements as proposed in the noble Lord's Question. These include the dangers of supplying medicines without reference to a qualified person, and the lack of suitable outlets.

It would be better therefore for each individual to take responsibility for obtaining any medicaments he may need.
