Information about the recapture of escaped prisoners by the prisoner's security category could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. Of the total of 1,917 prisoners of all security categories who escaped from custody during the period 20 June 1988 to 31 October 1992, 1,750 have been recaptured, four died whilst unlawfully at large and 163 remain unlawfully at large.
