HC Deb 30 November 1993 vol 233 c481W
Dr. Spink

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what percentage of children in Castle Point will be educated in grant-maintained schools in the primary sector and in the secondary sector by 1 January 1994; and what outstanding grant-maintained status applications there are for schools in Castle Point.

Mr. Robin Squire

Information on schools by parliamentary constituency is not collected centrally.

It is estimated that by January 1994 11 per cent. of primary and 61 per cent. of secondary pupils in Essex will be in self-governing schools.

On 29 November 24 schools—17 primary, seven secondary—in Essex had applications for grant-maintained status awaiting a decision, of which seven had a proposed incorporation date of 1 January.
